The first visible signs of aging often appear in the neck region as the skin begins to lose its elasticity. Neck liposuction is a surgical solution for men and women hoping to improve their appearance and look younger. Board Certified plastic surgeon Dr. Garrett A. Wirth understands the aesthetic importance of a toned, smooth neck. He has years of training and experience performing neck liposuction in Newport Beach.
Candidates for Neck Liposuction
It is important that neck liposuction candidates are at their goal weight for their height and possess good overall physical and emotional health. After a physical examination and a discussion of your cosmetic goals, Dr. Wirth will be able to determine if neck liposuction is the best option for you.
You may be a good candidate for neck liposuction if you meet some of the following criteria:
- You have unwanted fat in your neck region
- You possess a good underlying bone architecture
- You do not have excessively loose or sagging neck skin
The Neck Liposuction Procedure
Neck liposuction is an outpatient procedure typically performed under a local anesthetic combined with IV sedation to make you drowsy or general anesthesia. The entire procedure can often be completed in as little an hour or so, depending upon the extent of your liposuction. Once you’ve been sedated, a small cannula (a suctioning tube) will be inserted through tiny incisions made behind your ears.
Dr. Wirth will use the cannula as a vacuum to suction out fat deposits and tighten the overlying skin. Once your procedure is complete, Dr. Wirth will close the incisions with thin sutures. When you wake up, you will not be able to drive, so it is important that you make arrangements prior to surgery for a responsible adult to transport you.
What Happens After Neck Liposuction?
Dr. Wirth will provide you with personalized aftercare instructions following surgery. It is likely that you will experience some bruising, swelling and discomfort, which can be controlled with oral pain medication. You will be required to wear a compression bandage that wraps around your neck for the first several days. The compression bandage will aid in healing and reduce swelling.
The recovery process is relatively quick for neck liposuction. Most patients are recovered and able to return to work and social activity within a week. Strenuous exercises that can raise your blood pressure should be avoided for at least three weeks. Incisions typically heal inconspicuously and scarring will be minimal. The results of neck liposuction are more or less permanent; however, significant weight fluctuations can alter the final results. Maintaining a healthy exercise and diet program will increase the longevity of your results.
