Garrett Wirth, MD, MS, FACS is a Board Certified plastic surgeon in Irvine, CA. He has extensive training and experience performing thigh lifts and routinely performs them in conjunction with liposuction and other body contouring procedures.

Who is a Candidate for a Thigh Lift?

Both men and women may benefit from thigh lift surgery. You may be eligible if you:

  • Suffer from excess skin along the thighs following extreme weight loss or aging
  • Are motivated to improve your appearance
  • Possess good overall physical and psychological health

Garrett Wirth, MD, MS, FACS will work with you during the consultation process to determine if you are a suitable candidate for a thigh lift. Other factors such as medical history, current health status, and surgical expectations will also be taken into consideration.

How Does a Thigh Lift Work?

A thigh lift is performed with the assistance of both liposuction and excision (removal of tissue with a scalpel). There are several types of thigh lifts, which differ based on their incision pattern.

Prior to surgery, Dr. Wirth will work with you to determine which approach is best for your aesthetic goals.

Thigh lift surgery will last 3 or more hours and can be performed with local and general anesthesia. During surgery, excess skin and fat from both the inside and the outside of the upper thigh can be removed. The remaining tissue will then be reshaped and tightened, followed by a re-draping of your skin over a more defined body contour.

What Happens After a Thigh Lift?

Following surgery, it is likely that you will experience some pain and discomfort. Dr. Wirth may prescribe medication to alleviate your discomfort. You may also experience some bruising, swelling and tightness in your thigh area. It will be necessary for you to wear a compression garment for up to four weeks following surgery to reduce swelling and aid in healing.

You will need to attend several postoperative visits with Dr. Wirth in order to monitor healing and protect against complications.

Recovery times can vary greatly among patients. You should be up and walking within the first week, but it is recommended that you do not return to work for at least three weeks following surgery.

Strenuous activities such as exercise should be avoided for at least six weeks following surgery to avoid stressing the surgical area. If you’re ready to learn more about thigh lift surgery in Newport Beach, our team can help.
