Minimize the Physical & Emotional Discomfort of Large Breasts
Breast reduction removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin in order to reduce breast size and create a breast that is more proportional to the rest of your body. Because excessively large breasts often cause pain and discomfort, reductions also help alleviate these symptoms.
Dr. Garrett A. Wirth has many years of experience performing breast reduction procedures in Newport Beach. Through this surgery, he can help you achieve a more manageable breast size.
Who is a Candidate For Breast Reduction Surgery?
This type of breast surgery has many benefits. Women with overly large breasts often experience physical discomfort, pain, and restricted activity. Along with these physical challenges, excessively large breasts may also introduce significant emotional and psychological stress.
For these reasons, any generally healthy woman seeking to reduce the size of her breasts makes a strong candidate for breast reduction in Newport Beach. During a consultation with Dr. Wirth, you can discuss the benefits, indications, risks and other details regarding breast surgery, and determine if the procedure is right for you.
How Does it Work?
At the start of your cosmetic surgery, you will be given anesthesia to help reduce pain and discomfort. Dr. Wirth will then make a series of incisions in the regions surrounding the areola and breast crease.
The incisions are typically shaped like an inverted T or anchor, traveling around the areola, down toward the breast crease, and then horizontally within the crease.
After incisions are made, underlying breast tissue is removed, breasts are reduced, nipples are repositioned, areolar size may be reduced if desired and aesthetically pleasing and all incisions are carefully sutured.
What Happens After Surgery?
After your Newport Beach breast reduction, you will be able to go home the same day. Expect some discomfort, swelling, and possibly irritation at incision sites. Dr. Wirth and his team will provide an elastic bandage or support bra to help reduce swelling and support the newly reshaped breasts. As with all surgeries, remember to follow any directions provided by our staff.
As swelling and irritation decreases, your breasts will return to normal skin color and tone, and the aesthetic results of your cosmetic surgery will be complete.
Some possible side effects include scarring, infection, changes in breast and nipple sensitivity, breast asymmetry, need for revision surgery, and changes in ability to breastfeed.

Breast reduction FAQ
Will health insurance pay for my breast reduction?
In some cases, a health insurance plan will cover the procedure – when it is deemed to be medically necessary. These are cases in which the woman suffers from rashes, backaches, neckaches, headaches, or other problems associated with an excess of breast tissue.
What about my nipples? Will they be changed?
Your nipple location and size can be altered. Many women with overlarge breasts have nipples that are pointing downward or overlarge. These aesthetic problems will be fully resolved during your surgery.
When can I wear a new bra?
You will need some patience! Until your breasts are fully healed, you will need to wear the surgical bra or a sports bra as directed by Dr. Wirth. Once the final shape and size is achieved, which occurs after all swelling is gone, you will be healthy, fit, and can wear any type of bra you want.
Will I choose the size of my new breasts?
Dr. Wirth will be focused upon listening to what you hope to achieve in a breast reduction. Every woman has a unique vision about how they want their new breasts to look. Dr. Wirth is happy to advise you about what size will be most comfortable for your lifestyle, and best match your frame – but it is ultimately up to you.
