Enhance Your Profile for a More Youthful Appearance

A neck lift is a surgical procedure designed to reduce the appearance of loose or sagging skin in the neck region. This procedure can reduce visible signs of aging and give the appearance of weight loss.

Dr. Garrett A. Wirth is a Board Certified plastic surgeon offering neck lift surgery in Newport Beach. He frequently performs neck lift surgery in conjunction with other rejuvenation procedures such as neck liposuction or a facelift.

Who is a Candidate for a Neck Lift?

During your consultation with Dr. Wirth, he will be able to determine if a Newport Beach neck lift will be best suited for your cosmetic goals.

You may be a potential candidate if you meet some of the following criteria:

  • You are dissatisfied with your jowls, double chin or “turkey wattle”
  • You don’t want to see the loose and damaged skin hanging down or showing aging creases
  • You are physically and emotionally healthy
  • You possess realistic cosmetic goals

Other considerations such as prior medical history, skin elasticity, and facial structure will be taken into account when determining if you are a good candidate for a neck lift.

How Does a Neck Lift Work?

There are various surgical techniques that can be utilized for neck lift surgery in Newport Beach. Dr. Wirth will work with you to design a surgical plan that will be the most appropriate for your aesthetic goals. Neck lift surgery is typically performed in 3 or more hours, depending upon the extent of your procedure. Neck lift surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia but often does not require an overnight stay.

Dr. Wirth will begin by making two incisions under and behind your ears as well as under your chin, which will continue toward the hairline. He will then loosen the skin away from the underlying tissue, so that excess skin and fat can be removed before re-draping the skin. An incision directly underneath your chin may also be required to tighten the muscle near the central neck area. Dr. Wirth will finish surgery by closing the incisions with thin sutures or tissue glue.

What Happens After a Neck Lift?

Following surgery, it is common for patients to experience bruising, swelling and discomfort in the jaw, neck and ear regions. These areas may continue to swell for up to 10 days. You may be required to wear an elastic compression bandage to aid healing for up to two weeks. Dr. Wirth may also provide you with prescription pain medication and an oral antibiotic to alleviate any significant discomfort you may experience and to reduce your risk of infection.

Recovery times vary, but most patients are able to return to work and other social activities within two weeks. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least 4-6 weeks. The final results of neck lift surgery are permanent; however, the neck region will continue to age naturally and significant weight gain may affect the results. A healthy diet and exercise plan combined with limited sun exposure will increase the probability of long-lasting results.
