The gut is often referred to as the second brain, given that it comprises an extensive network of neurons and neurotransmitters, similar to those found in the central nervous system, the brain, and spinal cord. The gut maintains a delicate balance of bacteria, fungi, and other microbes that serve to create an environment for proper digestion and provide a protective barrier from harmful bacteria that incite an inflammatory response.
Gut dysbiosis has been linked to diabetes, irritable bowel disease, inflammatory bowel disease, autoimmunity, depression, anxiety, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, high cholesterol, heart disease, malnutrition, and even obesity.

How functional medicine can help

Functional medicine centers around a holistic approach to treat the whole system, not just the superficial symptoms of illness and poor health. It takes into consideration all aspects of the patient’s medical history, genetics, lifestyle, and personal goals to deliver an optimized treatment plan for total wellness.

Functional medicine looks at the gut microbiome to identify potential sources contributing to poor health.  Many patients have underlying conditions such as inflammation, food sensitivities, autoimmune disorders, insulin resistance, joint pain or inflammation, memory loss, even obesity that can be improved with proper restoration of the gut microbiome.

Functional medicine is based on a close patient-provider relationship that can uncover hidden health concerns, often driven by uncontrolled inflammation.  Once identified, we implement tools to mitigate inflammation and restore quality of life, helping patients to look and feel more youthful.

Our areas of focus include:

  • Lifestyle changes
  • Detoxification
  • Medically supervised fasting
  • Discovery of food allergies
  • An elimination diet
  • Glucose management
  • The optimization of restorative sleep
  • Dietary changes
  • Anti-inflammation diet
  • Stress reduction
  • Increased activity plan
  • Exploration of social interactions/hobbies/community growth

Additional areas of focus to enhance your health

Functional medicine’s holistic approach means our care extends beyond your basic health to include your appearance and lifestyle. We offer a range of cutting-edge technologies and anti-aging solutions that restore your self-confidence and boost your self-image.

Exilis

Exilis employs state-of-the-art ultrasound and radiofrequency energy to tighten sagging skin, correct wrinkles and lines, and reduce stubborn fat and cellulite. During treatment, collagen and elastin reserves are replenished, enhancing youthfulness and radiance.

Emsella

Using cutting-edge HIFEM (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) energy to stimulate pelvic floor muscle contractions, Emsella is a medically proven solution for urinary incontinence. Treatments are performed with the patient fully clothed and take just 30 minutes to complete.

BOTOX

BOTOX is a gold-standard anti-aging solution for reducing wrinkles that form as a result of repetitive facial expressions such as laughing, smiling, squinting, or frowning. As a leading neuromodulator, it uses botulinum toxin to temporarily block the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, relaxing the facial muscles to smooth away wrinkles, lines, and creases.
