What Can You Expect with Breast Augmentation?
Have you always struggled with your breast size? Have you wanted bigger, more voluptuous breasts? Newport Beach breast augmentation surgeon Doctor Garrett Wirth is here to help. Breast augmentation can be a great option for those who struggle with the size of their breasts or simply know that they want more breast volume. So, what can you expect if you get breast augmentation?
Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a form of cosmetic surgery that uses implants to help you reach your desired breast size. This is a great option, especially for those looking to restore their breast size after excessive weight loss or pregnancy.
Many women just feel the desire to have larger breasts in general, and many seek more breast volume to better match their body frame proportionally. Lots of women struggle with the size of their breasts, but how do you know if you are a good candidate? There are very few exceptions that prevent you from having breast augmentation, and it is important that you discuss options with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon like Dr. Wirth.
A good candidate for this surgery is someone who is unhappy with their breast size, volume, or shape of breasts, and has reasonable goals. Anyone who suffers from small breasts or who has breasts that don’t match in size, shape, or volume is also generally a great candidate for breast augmentation. Some other issues would be that your breasts aren’t proportioned or have had a loss of breast volume after weight loss or pregnancy.
About the Surgery
When you first meet with your surgeon it will be important to determine what size breasts and what type of augmentation is best for your unique case, as determined by your surgeon based on your goals and your anatomy. Once you have made these decisions you will be ready for surgery.
For surgery, you will be placed under anesthesia to reduce pain and discomfort. Dr. Wirth will then make incisions on your breasts. Location of your incisions will be thoroughly thought out by Dr. Wirth and will be determined by your body type and unique needs. The goal is to reduce visibility of postoperative scars and to maximize safety. Next, Dr. Wirth will place your implants into a pocket that was created either on top of or partially beneath the pectoralis major muscle. There are two types of implants, either silicone or saline implants, and it is important that you work with Dr. Wirth to determine which type of implants are best for you. Once the implants have been placed, Dr. Wirth will suture you up and you will be sent to recover.
Recovery for breast augmentation surgery is significantly different because Dr. Wirth utilizes his “24 Hour Breast Augmentation Recovery Plan.” It is also important that you follow any and all post-operation instructions you receive from Dr. Wirth. He will probably recommend that you reduce any physical activity, or any pressure, stress, motion, or abrasion to your incision sites. Too much pressure to your incision sites could cause your sutures to tear. After surgery you will see an immediate difference in shape, size, and volume of your breasts. Although, because of swelling and stretching, you can expect some possible color changes with bruising, changes in sensation on the breasts (especially on the nipples), or other changes that will be discussed with you by Dr. Wirth.
